This year homework will mainly consist of 60 minutes weekly of Lexia, read for 20 minutes daily, and practicing your student’s Rainbow Words. Additionally, there will at times be optional homework throughout the year.
Rainbow words are the high frequency words students that are part of the California Common Core standards. These words are an important part of learning to read. High Frequency Words (HFW) are usually words that do not follow the spelling patterns and are not decodable. These words when known to automaticity make reading more fluid and appear often in text. Rainbow words will be sent home in a small manilla envelope. The loose flashcards are the words the students are working on. The words attached to the ring are the words students have successfully read for me. I test students' Rainbow Words on Fridays. Please be sure your student brings their envelope of words to school every Friday so I can assess their progress.
